I almost broke my spine finishing this presentation (metaphorically). Honestly, the amount of work that I did is mildly concerning. Sometimes, my brain just goes brrr 😊

First up, I did the final version of the storyboard. Thankfully, I did it in a fairly simplistic style, so it wasn’t too difficult but it did take some time. I edited it together into a little video with music and a voiceover. I’m fairly happy with how this came out, although I hate the sound of my own voice so that was kind of irritating (it gets worse later on, hahaha). You can see this video below:

Next up, on a whim I created a pamphlet to add into the second prototype of the PPK (more on this later). I had the idea of making an information pamphlet prior, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to print it out. However, I was already doing a bunch of printing for another class using some nice quality paper and I thought, why not. The pamphlet would include content on how to penpal, ideas on how to get creative with penpalling, the user’s pal’s profile, and additional information. Because it’s a prototype box, I didn’t fill all this content in, I just had vague categories as headers. I thought it was a nice gesture anyway and I was already doing enough work as is. I was happy to have another thing to add to the box!

I also made conversation prompts for the box based on the persona’s interests. I hand-wrote them onto some paper I bought from Daiso and sealed them together with a band of wrapping paper and a sticker to make it visually pleasing.

Speaking of Daiso, I also bought some nice wrapping paper to make the second penpal kit prototype. The morning after I bought the wrapping paper, I got up and immediately got to work gluing the paper down onto the box with tacky glue. I thought about taping it in but it didn’t seem effective and I wanted to make sure it stuck. I then filled the box with the contents of the box from the prior kit (as well as some new things because my partner used the stickers) as well as the information pamphlet and conversation prompts. I took some photos of the box, and it was done! I like this box and I like the penpal kit and I’m proud of my work. I think I did a good job, even if the box isn’t visually perfect (perfectionism hello), I’m happy with the outcome considering it was very DIY-ed.

Final penpal kit :)

Finally, I put together the presentation. This took two days to complete but it was worth the trouble. Thankfully, I didn’t have to speak out loud during my presentation and instead got to record beforehand. I’m also grateful for my previous experience with Adobe’s video editing program, Premiere Pro, which I used to put my presentation together. This made the process of clipping together the presentation significantly easier.

I had to ask Carolyn to specify what is required of the presentation when compared to the final assignment because I was confused about the difference between the two. I wanted to make sure I was doing the correct thing. I worked really hard to make sure that the presentation was visually appealing and utilised PowerPoint to the fullest extent for visual design.

Finally, I brought the presentation to class with the physical prototype, covered in a pillowcase because it was raining that day and I didn’t want it to get wet. I backed the presentation up not only on my USB, but also on my Google Drive and emailed it to myself since I’ve been in several situations where I’ve ended up empty-handed. I was up third and was grateful to be able to watch other people’s presentations. It was really interesting to compare progress and see how many ideas people had come up with. I’m very proud of my presentation (see below). Everyone seemed to enjoy the prototype and thought it was cute!

I have an extension for the final report which I’m grateful to have considering the amount of stress I’m under at this time of the semester. Overall, I’m really happy with the work that I’ve produced in this class and I look forward to hopefully working more on this project in my second year.

Final cute video:
