One of the photos I took for the unusual angle aspect of the folio

This week was the Easter break, and admittedly I fell a little off the bandwagon in regards to this class.

As mentioned in previous posts, I utilised this class as a means of avoiding the work for the other classes. This was because a) I find the content of this class up my alley and within my comfort zone, and b) writing and researching is an extremely intimidating task for me as a person with ADHD, which can present a significant handicap for me in regards to written, non-creative assignment work. Thus, the break presented an opportune time for me to finally force myself to complete university work for my other courses.

I’m fairly confident in my 1st assignment for this class, specifically in the fact that I will have it completed in time to a high standard, since I have everything done except for 2 of the photos (which I plan on completing tomorrow before class) and having it assembled in InDesign. I doubt this will be difficult to do, and I’m excited to be able to compare my work from the start of the semester to this point in time.

Concern :(

A concern I experienced was a message in the teams discussion page for this class about when these blogs are due. Specifically, how they are due each week, by the end of the week, instead of collectively by the end of the semester. The day i saw this message, I wrote a response and thought I had sent it, but realised I hadn’t 3 days later.

At this point, I am too exhausted to re-write this message but it really really really terrifies me that I may experience significant mark demotions based on me submitting these “late” when I had no clue that this was late to begin with. I’ve been struggling to keep up, so the blogs have been something that I’ve trailed behind on since I thought it was inconsequential, but now I’m having to pull all of this weight, at the same time, all together.

Besides the incentive to keep up, I feel that this weekly deadline puts a helluva lot of pressure on people like me who are definitely going to do every single blog, but often we just do it late. I will write another message at some point, but every time I think of how my grade will suffer in this class that I’m trying so so hard in due to a deadline I didn’t even know about, I feel my chest tighten and panic starts to set in. I’m getting a bit shaky typing this out now, frankly.

Photo Time!

As previously mentioned, I haven’t made a whole lot of progress. I have, however, finally taken my photo for the “A photograph of an object from an unusual perspective.” aspect of the assignment. I had decided to do the washing line in my apartment’s yard a couple of weeks ago, but due to some chronic procrastination I only managed to finally take several photos yesterday. You can see these below:

After having some other eyes look over it, we settled on this image:

I feel it qualifies as an unusual angle since the object (the washing line) is not often seen from this angle. Further, it no longer looks like a washing line, and more so looks like a telephone pole. It looks quite large and intimidating, which is exaggerated by the vast blue sky above it. It is aesthetically off centre, and the poles of metal are all angled diagonally to the lense. The photo is well lit (thank god for golden hour) and overall, the image is visually pleasing. With this reasoning in mind, I’m happy to settle for this image for my assignment. I may fiddle around with it slightly in photoshop (just to see if I can improve it in any way), but that isn’t necessary in my opinion.

I hope to have the folio done by tuesday, that way i can post it onto the teams and get feedback well before the due date. I really want to submit this assignment early so I can focus on the other messes on my hands, both of which I have a lot more work to do for. Wish me luck (haha).

Side note: I’m hoping to get disability help from GFU disability services (with a Fat letter from my therapist) so hopefull that will make the level of stress I’m experiencing more manageable.

I’m looking forward to cement mixing my brain over the next week :)
